Kodava weddings are deep rooted in tradition and are so unique in their own way. The rituals, the jewellery, the outfits and even the groomwear sets them apart, adding to the charm! Here is a Kodava wedding which had a traditional, timeless bride, but the wedding had contemporary decor which definitely caught our eye. Kudos to Bling It On for doing such a fab job on the decor- which looked modern to the eye, but had traditional significance as well. Take a look at this pretty Kodava wedding.

"I was a theatre artist and he attended one of my plays", the bride tells us.
Wedding
From The Bride:
Our wedding took place on November 19, 2023. It was a traditional Kodava (Coorg) wedding. A Kodava bride is traditionally dressed in a red silk saree with gold bottus (dots) and her ornaments are inspired by nature and animals. I went for a classy bridal look which also reflected in the venue and decor.
It was a two day wedding. The first day - Oorkudo- I wore a green Kanjeevaram silk Kodava saree with a brick red checked veil to match the blouse. The second and main day- I wore a deep red Kanjeevaram saree, with a matching musku, and a full sleeved blouse (called a jacket). All my traditional Kodava jewelry was sourced from local Coorg jewellers.
My Kanjeevaram silk saree was from Prakash Silks at Kanchipuram, TN.
The Musku (veil) was from Mysore Udyog, dyed in deep red to match my saree, and embroidery work was done by a local artist in Bangalore.
I had planned my wedding look well in advance and knew exactly what I wanted and made sure I’d procure the same. It’s always better to spend some time understanding what you want, take suggestions and see what works for you. Having said that, not everything will always go your way so just let go and enjoy your wedding! It won’t matter in the long run.
All kodava brides have to wear their traditional jewelry on the wedding day, which consists of 4 chains- Pathak, kokketathi, jomale and palomale. On the hands are the kaipilli (or Hathphool) and kadagas (bracelets) and on the feet are the kaalpilli (an anklet of sorts) which is always made of silver.
The Kodava groom wears a while Kupiya, with a bright red silk chale (a long piece of cloth/ waistband that is wrapped around several times)to which an Odi Kathi (Kodava war knife) is hooked onto, with a matching red vastra or Mande tuni (headgear.) the groom also carried a gejje thand ( sacred wand with tiny bells) along with him.

Makeup Artist and Hairstylist: Disha Buxani and Lavi Buxani
The two sisters did a phenomenal job and gave me exactly what I asked for. They are very talented and skilled artists who also make the bride relaxed and comfortable which I think is extremely important.
Photographer:
Prarthana for candids and Kushal Photography for capturing traditional photos. The latter also help with Kodava customs during the wedding that many may not be too familiar with.
